Important Update on US Student VISAs
Our latest blog has been written to address the recent reports regarding the US Government’s temporary pause on new F-1 student visa interview appointments. We understand this news may have caused concern, and we want to reassure you that FirstPoint is fully across the issue and actively supporting all of our students and families through this development.
Here are the key facts:
- This pause only affects the scheduling of new student visa interview appointments.
- If you already have a confirmed visa appointment, it remains valid and will proceed as planned.
- The US State Department has confirmed this is a temporary pause to allow for the rollout of updated vetting procedures, including enhanced social media screening.
- The pause applies globally – including the UK, UAE, and Australia – but does not prevent you from submitting your visa application or preparing your documentation.
What You Should Do Now:
We are monitoring updates directly from the U.S. State Department and embassies in each region. Based on current guidance, we expect the visa scheduling systems to resume normal service in the coming days or weeks, and will notify you as soon as that happens.
What You Should Do Now:
- If you have a scheduled visa interview – attend as planned.
- If you haven’t booked an interview yet – submit your DS-160 application and gather all documents, so you are ready to book as soon as slots reopen.
- Be mindful of your online and social media activity during this period, as the new screening process may review applicants’ digital presence.
- Keep in regular contact with your FirstPoint advisor – we are here to guide and support you every step of the way.
We’ve been supporting international students on their US journey for over 25 years, and we’re confident this is a short-term procedural delay. Please rest assured: your FirstPoint team is looking out for your best interests and will ensure you’re fully prepared to secure your visa and start your studies in the US as planned.
